Aurore Petit
Aurore Petit grew up in Haute Savoie. She is the second of four children and draws her strength. Attracted by this discipline, she trained at the Estienne school in Paris, in applied arts, then at Decorative Arts in Strasbourg. There, her teachers included the illustrator Claude Lapointe and the artist Guillaume Dégé, with whom she developed her own writing. Her first orders as an illustrator were for the adult and youth press. She published her first album Ménageries with Thierry Magnier in 2008.
Author-illustrator, Aurore Petit collaborates with writers (like her partner, the author Mathis) but designs texts and images in most of her projects. She likes to get to the point and imagine stylized characters and settings that can speak to everyone. “I am careful that my work is immediate and accessible.” She now lives in Nantes, with Jean-Marc (Mathis), and her children Armand and Astrid. Her family life and their daily life inspire her a lot for her creations. “Becoming a mother helped me trust myself and refocus on the essentials, knowing where I wanted to go.” Since 2008, Aurore has published around fifty books, particularly for toddlers. For several years, she has also produced pop-up books. Her career occasionally leads her to work in volume to create theater sets or exhibition installations.
