Marion Duval

Born in Nancy, Marion Duval studied at the Estienne school in Paris then at the Decorative Arts in Strasbourg, a city where she still lives today. In 2005, she began her career as an illustrator in the press and children’s publishing.

Marion Duval has published numerous books, such as the pretty little bardboard books entitled Le Feu, Le Ciel, La Terre, L’Eau with Cécile Roumiguière at Seuil jeunesse. Le piano, released in 2012, is her first book as an author, published by Didier Jeunesse, followed by Toi-même by Albin Michel in 2018. Since this album, she has used acrylic to create her colorful illustrations, a technique that offers her great freedom.

Marion seeks a form of sobriety in the image, making the gaze converge towards the main subject. She likes to get lost in certain details while keeping other elements at the sketch stage, thus giving the impression of an unfinished dream. The artist is used to working from photos, in order to maintain this impression of reality in which she anchors her work.
